Description:
Whether breathing new life to older traditional songs or through their own incisive songwriting, Coope Boyes and Simpson's powerful and distinctive unaccompanied singing took English roots into radical new directions. Described as "quite simply the best purveyors of acappella song on these Islands", the trio's first record was the rock magazine Q's Roots Album of the Year - their live subsequent solo and joint releases have led to awards and outstanding reviews across classical and popular genres.

Touring widely in Europe and the USA, much of the trio's most evocative music grew out of their long associations with Peace Concerts Passendale, the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ieper and the novelist, Michael Morpurgo, who has often chosen their songs and singing to illustrate live narrations of his First War stories. In 2014 they released, In Flanders Fields (No Masters NMCD46), a double album of traditional songs and their own writing about the War. Praising "A trio of exhilarating a cappella singers who have done more than most to express the horrors of the conflict in their songs", The Guardian's Robin Denselow awarded both the CDs and their subsequent live launch concert four stars.

When they announced their retirement from touring, the roots magazine Fatea gave them the first Lifetime Achievement Awardthey had ever presented to a band, whilst their final album, CODA (No Masters NMCD48) saw fRoots' reviewer concluding "they were still at the top of their game - their perspicacious fiery anger still "burning bright". He also suggested that they "still had plenty to say." With many thanks to #LivToYourLivingRoom, there's now a chance to hear what they're saying and doing now.

"As passionate a tour de force of unaccompanied singing as you can imagine." Mojo
"Inspired. Barbed lyrics, a wide pitch range and thrilling bass sonorities swapped between all three. If there were such a thing as postmodern folk music, this might be it." The Guardian
"Impassioned acappella" The Daily Telegraph
"...tunes sung with natural, unfettered energy - isn't it fabulous, that sound." Classic FM

Ticketing

To purchase tickets for this event please click on 'Register' below. On the next page you can select ticket types and quantities.

We are offering three ticket types for this event:

- Standard ticket is the 'normal' price that we would charge for the event
- Pay a bit more is for those who can afford to, and would like to help support live music and our artists
- Pay a bit less is for those who would find the standard ticket a bit of a stretch, for whatever reason

You can purchase whichever ticket you like; you don't need to give a reason, and you won't be asked for any proof of need. For online events you only need to purchase one ticket per household/computer.

We are trialling this ticket system to help make our events more accessible to more people, and to allow those who would happily pay a bit more to do so easily, helping us to subsidise tickets for those who can't afford them.
