Description:
The Grand Virtual Tour of Skiddaw 2020

This is an opportunity to virtually run, walk, stagger or crawl the 44 miles to complete The Grand Tour of Skiddaw route over 10 days, either as a single 44 mile run or a series of shorter distances totalling 44 miles.

We will be following current UK Government guidelines regarding exercise for the period of the ‘race'. As this is a virtual event, we are relying on participants' ‘honesty' (more on that later) to log your miles, whether run/walked in the great outdoors or on a treadmill, as accurately as possible, and have some much needed fun along the way.

The event starts at Midnight on Wednesday 19th August and ends at Midnight on Saturday 29th August. Participants have a maximum of 10 days to complete the 44 miles/70.8 km.

Now for the techy bit or ‘how will it work?'

You can complete the total 44 mile distance in a single, continuous run/walk (to do so enter the GTS Oner category) or choose to break down the total event distance to run/walk one checkpoint at a time (enter the CP category).

If you choose the CP Category then each leg can be completed in any way you choose; either a single, continuous run/walk or a number of run/walks to total each leg distance. Once you've completed all of the CP legs, you will have completed the total event distance. By spreading out the distance over a number of days we hope to include not only our seasoned GTS ultra runners, but also encourage new runners, friends and family members to get involved.

Checkpoints;

Caldbeck 1 – 7.8 miles/12.5 km
Latrigg – 12.1 miles/19.4 km
Peter House Farm – 7.5 miles/12.7 km
Caldbeck 2 – 8.8 miles/14.2 km
Finish – 7.8 miles/12.5 km
After you've completed either your single, continuous 44 mile run or a Checkpoint Leg, please return to SiEntries and Edit your Entry so that you can record your time for the run/leg. Your cumulative time and position will be recorded by SiEntries on the Results Leader board so you can check out your progress…

You are responsible for uploading your times to the SIEntries website, all times must be posted by midnight on Saturday 29th August.

If you add your Strava and other social media IDs to SiEntries on your Update My Details screen then these will be displayed next to your name on the leader board.

There will be a Grand Virtual Tour of Skiddaw Strava group. If you're feeling competitive and fancy trying for one of our prizes, you will need to provide gpx evidence of your distance/ascent.

Prizes

We'll have a number of Spot Prizes (thanks to our sponsors La Sportiva and Mountain Fuel) with some random prize categories, including;

Fastest Finisher (Oner and CP categories)

King or Queen of the Mountain for the most ascent gained over the 10 days (Note the ascent for climbing Skiddaw is 3054 feet/931 metres and the total ascent for The Grand Tour of Skiddaw is 7136 feet/2175 metres, something to aim for!).

Best Bell! GTS regulars will know that we place an old bell on the summit of The Mighty Skiddaw, which all runners MUST ring! So, on Leg 3 we ask that you ring your own bell at the top of your nearest hill and post the pic on our social media! So, whether it's a cycle, school, church, cow or door – show us your bell! No bell to hand? Simply download the pic of the GTS bell from our facebook page and use that!

The GTS pub, The Stagger Inn, has a tradition of the Friday night pre race pickled egg eating competition, the record is 5, so a prize (and stomach ache) to the person who eats the most in one sitting…video evidence will be required.

The Golden GTS ticket. Picked at random, a free entry to a future GTS.

Please tag us on facebook, twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #grandvirtualtourofskiddaw2020. Show us your pics! We'll have Spot Prizes for the best pics/posts shared over the event period.

Minimum age for entering the Oner/44 mile continuous run is 18 years, but the CP/stage event is open to all ages, although under 15's should be accompanied by an adult, and we would advise that each run/walk be kept to a 3 mile/5km maximum distance.

Every participant will receive an oak medal, made locally in the north Lakes, plus there'll be options to purchase GTS headtubes @ £10 and Grand Virtual Tour of Skiddaw technical vests (men's and ladies fit) @ £15 during the entry process. These will be posted out after the 29th August.

Entry Fee £15

10% of all entry fees will be donated to Keswick Mountain Rescue, Charitable Incorporated Organisation Number 1165345.
