Design Day: Green Up The City, an architecture workshop for children
From: Wednesday, May 29 2019, 11:00 am
to: Friday, May 31 2019, 4:00 pm
Who or what is architecture for? This 3-day creative workshop for 11 to 15 year olds considers how architecture is for everyone, and not just people - we also need to consider nature and the insects, birds, animals and plants that live around us.
How can we design with them in mind? How can we ensure that creatures such as bees continue to thrive? Join us and use all your senses to redesign London to create spaces for insects, birds and other animals that live in the city. What would you create in order to attract more butterflies? How can we make the city seem more inviting to robins and goldfinches? How can we make green spaces work in an urban landscape to build for a better future?
Led by landscape architect Lily Bakratsa, over three days you will learn and gain hands-on experience in the fundamentals of landscape architecture. You will research nature and its species before using sketching, collaging and model-making to investigate new ways to transform the city into an urban jungle that works both for humans and all our wonderful creatures.
