Alfred Dunhill Championship

Although once traditionally held in January, in 2004 the Alfred Dunhill Championship was held twice as what would have been the 2005 date moved forward to December 2004! Retaining that new position, it now follows the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City and this year forms the fifth round of what is 2007 PGA European tour. Once again it takes place once again at Leopard Creek Country Club in Mpumalanga, south of the mighty Kruger National Park.
With prize money of £1,000,000 there's a lot to play for, and the Dunhill Championship has often provided exciting finishes - 2003 and 2004 both saw sudden-death playoffs, while home-grown golfer Charl Schwartzel won in the 2005 leg of the European Tour (actually in 2004). Last year the championship was retained for South Africa as Ernie Els won it for the first time since he won the very first Alfred Dunhill Championship in 1995. Who will win in this year?
The Alfred Dunhill Championship is now the first of two annual PGA European Tour tournaments in South Africa, with the South African Airways Open since 2005 established before Christmas.
The PGA European Tour and its American counterpart, the PGA Tour, are the richest and most celebrated golfing competitions in the world. The most accomplished professional golfers worldwide choose to play on one of the two tours, as well as competing for the four Majors.
Whilst the lure of the dollar has enticed many European and overseas stars to the PGA Tour, the European tour remains an extremely lucrative alternative. Now known as the European Tour International Schedule, the season includes events as far afield as South Africa, Australia, Qatar, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
