In samenwerking met Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ presenteert het Bimhuis drie meesterpianisten die de aandacht van een breed publiek verdienen: Marc Copland, Eric Watson en Matthew Shipp. Ze lossen elkaar af tijdens één concert. Marc Coplands spel is intiem en poëtisch, in de traditie van jazzlegende Bill Evans. In de muziek van Eric Watson ontmoet de gestroomlijnde elegantie van Duke Ellington de grilligheid van klassiek componist Charles Ives. Matthew Shipp musiceerde eerder met jazzavonturiers David S. Ware en Roscoe Mitchell. Hij gebruikt eigen composities en standards als vertrekpunt voor turbulente improvisaties.

In collaboration with neighbouring venue Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ the Bimhuis presents three master pianists that deserve wide recognition: Marc Copland, Eric Watson and Matthew Shipp. They will perform alternately during one concert. Marc Copland’s playing is intimate and poetic and he operates in the tradition of jazz legend Bill Evans. The music of Eric Watson is a meeting between the elegance of Duke Ellington and the whimsicality of classical composer Charles Ives. Matthew Shipp played with jazz adventurers David S. Ware and Roscoe Mitchell. He uses his own compositions and standards as springboards for turbulent improvisations.
