Description:
It's been a while since York has had the pleasure of a Hayley Hutchinson show. To date she's released two albums (one on Gut, one recorded by Iain Archer) and there's a new one about to drop this spring.

It's bloody lovely, and a little bit of a departure from previous efforts. The music leans towards a more seventies pop sound in fact there is more music in general. I'm guessing Mr Sam Forrest Super Talent played lots of it (sounds like it!) as well as writing all the songs on this record. It's seriously lovely stuff folks. Hayley has always been in possession of a beautiful, beautiful voice and this album is certainly her finest to date. Buy it! And get Sam's while you're at it cos that's magic too.

The support bill tonight is actually full of stars.

DELTA MAID returns to The Basement once more before she heads south to support Turin Breaks. When she sings, this wonderful Liverpudlian stops everyone in their tracks. Echoes of smokey forties jazz clubs and deep south bbq's abound. Accompanied by simple picked acoustic blues guitar, it's absolutely all she needs.

It was a couple of years ago ALI WHITTON last graced The Basement stage, I remember it well. A complete unknown to me at the time, his soundcheck was enough for me to chase him outside afterwards to share a cigarette and ask a few questions. Anyway, he's now on his way to live in New Zealand so come early and hear his great acoustic indie pop before it's too late.

Another local wonder and super talent MR ANDREW GAINES wraps up the bill. A purveyor of folk music of a very northern nature, his flag flies high in this town and if you haven't seen him perform solo you really bloody should have by now. He is an awesome musician who constantly bewilders me with his energy, support and enthusiasm of local music. York is very lucky to have him about.
