Bj√?¬łrnstjerne Bj√?¬łrnson is something of a national hero and in his childhood home of Molde he has the posthumous honour of a literary festival in his name.
Influenced by the French revolution, Bj√?¬łrnson wrote for the local newspaper, Romsdals Budstikke, where he developed a dedication to the cause of freedom. The festival is a salute to his uncompromising faith in the art of writing and the struggle for human rights.
Norway's major international festival of literature is highly respected throughout Europe and has a packed programme of lectures, seminars and special events as well as clubs for young people, workshops for aspiring writers, programmes for children and the elderly, book markets, concerts and exhibitions.
