Friday, September 7 2007, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Weltklasse at Zurich's Letzigrund Stadium, first staged in 1928, is part of the Golden League series and attracts the cream of the athletics world.
Over the years the "magic track" has witnessed epic duels, shattered records and breathtaking victories. It is little wonder that this event produces such a special atmosphere. While it is immensely popular with the spectators, it seems that the athletes love the event too. No fewer than 19 world records have fallen in the last 25 years.
The Golden League series always attracts the very best athletes and the biggest names in the world. The format was created in 1998 to provide a platform to ensure that the leading athletes of the day have the opportunity to meet on a regular basis. By doing so, the interest in the sport is maximised among the fans as the athletes develop rivalries and ongoing battles for supremacy. There is also the small matter of a US$1million jackpot fund for anyone winning all seven of their Golden League events.
