From: Thursday, October 25 2007, 9:00 am
to: Sunday, November 4 2007, 6:00 pm
Salzburg swings to the sound of the sax and the trumpet, as the Jazz Autumn festival brings established and up-and-coming musical talent to a number of top venues across the city, including Residenz, the Mozarteum and the Grosses Festspielhaus. Staging 100 jazz-related events, the festival celebrates its 10th year in style.
Whether you're into acid jazz or Dixieland, this toe-tapping festival never fails to please those with a sense of rhythm. For the first time in 2005, the event welcomes some of the world's best jazz dance ensembles in addition to its regular programme of concerts, exhibitions and film screenings.
Opening this year's programme is modern jazz drumming master Roy Haynes and Norwegian duo Beady Belle. An additional highlight is a photography exhibition with works by Phil Stern, who has captured the likes of Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald on camera.
Other renowned jazz artists taking to the stage include the Jan Garbarek & Hilliard Ensemble, New Orleans stars Terence Blanchard Quintet, explosive pianist Monty Alexandar, Italian saxophonist Stephano di Battista, plus the latest New York jazz from Jason Moran and The Bandwagon.
