Viennale Film Festival

The Viennale is Austria's biggest film festival - a fortnight of premières, retrospectives, discussions and more in cinemas throughout the city, attracting over 65,000 visitors each year.
The festival is non-competitive, although it does give out a number of prizes. Unlike many of the bigger festivals, it is aimed at the general public rather than the film industry.
Founded by a group of film critics in 1960, it has premièred such celebrated movies as Truffaut's first film, Les quatre cents coups, and Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress. Including up to 200 feature films, documentaries and shorts, the programme offers a wide geographical and thematic range.
The festival provides film lovers with a great opportunity to see both classics and new avant-garde films at the same time.
